Carriers (2009)

Written and directed by Àlex Pastor and David Pastor. Carriers is a 2009 horror film about four people fleeing a viral pandemic. Chris Pine who just starred in Star Trek is in this film. As a lethal virus spreads across the globe, brothers Brian and Danny , along with Bobby and Kate seek a supposed plague-free haven. But while circumventing those infected, the travelers begin to turn against one another. This movie wasnt very good, I expected more, but then very pandemic film lately hasnt been worth watching.

Powder Blue (2009)

This was the last film Patrick Swayze was in  before his death on September 14, 2009.

The film itself is kinda wierd. There's actually 2 stories going on, non-related to each other. But I will say this Jessica Beil is an outstanding Stripper, oh yeah boys she can rock the catwalk! She's rail thin but dang! As for the film its about loss and redemption colliding on Christmas Eve in Los Angeles, where a shy mortician falls for a single-mom stripper and a desperate ex-priest forges an unlikely bond with a transsexual prostitute The tightly woven ensemble drama also features gripping performances by Ray Liotta, Patrick Swayze, Lisa Kudrow and Kris Kristofferson.

The Cast:
Jessica Biel ... Rose Johnny
Eddie Redmayne ... Qwerty Doolittle
Forest Whitaker ... Charlie
Ray Liotta ... Jack Doheny
Lisa Kudrow ... Sally

Spirit Trap

This movie actually came out in 2005, I had never heard of it. Most of the trailers I found weren't even in english. But I happen to adore Billie Piper whose a pop singer over in the UK and was Rose Tyler on Doctor Who. The story is about four London University students that take up residence in an abandoned mansion only to discover that the house has a terrible history and has trapped them to serve a terrifying sentence for their own dark secrets and past sins. Caught in a struggle for their very survival, can they make it out alive, or will the house have its revenge? Its better than some of the films out there Ive recently added to my "Dont bother with" list.

The Cast:
Billie Piper
Luke Mably
Sam Troughton
Emma Catherwood

The Trailer: (best one to see what its about sorry not english)

Here's a link to listen to Billie Piper, she's actually a really good singer, BUT her choregrapgher is stuck in the 80's. She could do well here in USA with another choregrapher!

Sublime

This film actually came out in 2007, I had never heard of it, so i sat down and watched it. The movie was trippy to say the least, but if your bored and nothing else is on its worth a view.
This is psychological horror, so prepare yourself for some twists. If your afraid of hospitals don't watch it....lol. Director Tony Krantz's  brings another psychological horror to the screen.

After checking in to the hospital for a routine procedure, patient George Grieves soon discovers that checking out won't be so routine. There's something horrifyingly amiss within the walls of the East Ward, and as increasingly surreal happenings swirl around him, George struggles to keep his grip on sanity.

TV's Best Series, some still airing

Doctor Who (BBC America New Version/ on Sci Fi too):  I am a huge fan of Doctor Who (not the old 80's series) I came in with Doctor Who was Christopher Eccleston and the current Doctor Who being David Tennant and in 3 more episodes will be the final Doctor Who will be Matt Smith because as you know he only has 11 regenerations as a Time Lord. More than 15 years after "Doctor Who" went off the airwaves, the venerable sci-fi series got a well-received 21st-century makeover, complete with younger actors, modern editing and vibrant CGI animation. Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC. The programme depicts the adventures of a mysterious alien time-traveller (called a Time Lord) known as "the Doctor" who travels in his time and spaceship, the TARDIS, which normally appears from the exterior to be a blue 1950s police box. With his companions, he explores time and space whilst facing a variety of foes and righting wrongs. It's fantastic!

Torchwood: Now you know I would love this since its a spin off from Doctor Who! In this series policewoman Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) stumbles upon a secret organization known as Torchwood, a clandestine group led by the mysterious Capt. Jack Harkness (John Barrowman-He's gay, but he's gorgeous ladies!!) that monitors alien activity on Earth. Cooper soon joins Harkness, tech expert Toshiko Sato (Naoko Mori) and medic Owen Harper (Burn Gorman) in their quest to protect Earth from invasion. Every episode is a great adventure.

Primeval: An unexplained wrinkle in time, with prehistoric creatures are running amok through the modern age, prompting evolutionary zoologist Nick Cutter (Douglas Henshall) to spring into action. With his small team of experts, Cutter takes on the anachronistic beasts and tries to keep a global crisis at bay. But the sudden reappearance of his wife, whom he long thought dead, only adds another piece to a complicated puzzle. I think im hooked on BBS America tv programming, or they just have better shows than us! LOL
This is another must see show.

Burn Notice: When secret agent Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) inexplicably gets his walking papers, he makes his way home to Miami and turns his talents to private detective work, all the while trying to get to the bottom of his mysterious fall from grace. Gabrielle Anwar and Bruce Campbell co-star in this breezy espionage series, in which multiple Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Sharon Gless plays Westen's carping mother.

Heroes: Best Drama follows a global group of everyday people who, in the midst of their perfectly normal lives, awake to discover they have special powers -- from stopping time to reading people's thoughts. The newly minted superheroes eventually join forces to defeat their mutual foe, who plots to steal their super-DNA and destroy the world. Hero Masi Oka earned his first Emmy nod playing Hiro, a time traveler.

Prison Break: With each episode, we learn more details about Michael's ultimate prison break to help his brother, Lincoln (Dominic Purcell), break out of the Fox River State Penitentiary … but will it go off without a hitch? A nationwide manhunt ensues second season. After a season on the run, Michael (Wentworth Miller) finds himself back behind bars, incarcerated in a nightmarish Panamanian penitentiary that authorities have deserted in the wake of a prison riot. With brutal inmates running the show led by the vicious Lecherojust staying alive will be a challenge for Michael. Meanwhile, Lincoln is on the outside working on the next jailbreak. On the loose again, after breaking out of a dangerous Panamanian prison, but the shadowy agents who framed Burrows for murder are on their trail, in the fourth season of this popular TV series. And unlike their last breakout, from a U.S. prison, when they were hoping to quietly disappear, the brothers now want revenge for the death of Scofield's girlfriend. This is a great series shame its ended now.

Doll House:
Eliza Dushku stars as Echo, a member of an elite underground organization that sends its operatives on dangerous missions, then brings them back to their top-secret Dollhouse to wipe out all memory of the assignment. But when Echo starts to recall troubling bits and flashes from her former missions, she begins to question who she is and just what this powerful organization is doing. Olivia Williams and Tahmoh Penikett co-star.

Sara Conner Chronicles: Based on the popular Terminator action films, Sarah Connormust prepare her teenage son Johnfor his destiny as leader of the human resistance in a future where intelligent machines have decided that mankind must be terminated. As they race to head off the pending apocalypse, they're aided by a reprogrammed robot sent from the future to protect them and hunted by robotic assassins sent to kill them. Sarah Connor fights to protect her teenage son John from a series of nearly indestructible robots sent from the future to kill him, in this exciting series based on the popular Terminator films. In the second season, the Connors and their one robot protector Camerontry to find and destroy the Skynet project that is destined to one day create the Terminators. Its a great series, and airs again in January for another wild season.

Reaper: With a creative team that includes filmmaker Kevin Smith and the producers of "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," this offbeat supernatural series follows Sam Oliver (Bret Harrison), a young man forced into service as a bounty hunter for the devil (Ray Wise). Sam and his co-workers spend each episode rounding up escaped souls and returning them to hell. Tyler Labine, Missy Peregrym, Rick Gonzalez and Valarie Rae Miller co-star.

Stargate Atlantis: This spin-off of the Sci-Fi Channel's hugely popular "Stargate SG-1" series finds its crew, led by Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson), on a base located in Antarctica, wherein lies the lost civilization of Atlantis. What's more, they've also discovered a parallel world of sorts in a galaxy known as Pegasus, but what lies therein may not offer salvation; instead, it seems to be posing an imminent danger to the inhabitants of Earth. Now into its fifth season its a not miss classic as good as StarGate-.SG1.

Eureka: This quirky sci-fi series kicks off with stranded U.S. Marshal Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) wandering into a remote town populated by geniuses, a not-so-sleepy hamlet harboring a slew of government secrets and bizarre mysteries. Assuming the duties of sheriff, Carter navigates the strange goings on in Eureka, including alien abductions, control-freak computers, poisonous pollens and more.

TV Reality Programming:

Gene Simmons Family Jewels: Gene is simply hilarious, I remember KISS as a kid but really didnt get into the whole fan thing. Not long ago the started airing this show and I fell in love with his family. The whole gang is funny and he is an amazing entrepreneur.

L.A. Ink: Artist Kat Von D, who moves to Los Angeles and uses her unique style to become inker to the stars. In a city known for its tats, celebrities, musicians and wannabes line up for Kat's black-and-gray art in this reality series from The Learning Channel. Between clients, Kat deals with the day-to-day headaches of running a business and managing her talented staff: Pixie, Corey, Kim and Hannah.

The Osbournes: Wow this series was quite the odd ball family jewel of its time, Ozzy when you could understand him you still didnt know what the heck he was talking about, as the seasons went on it got better and better.

Rob and Big: Rob Dyrek and Big Black are a hilarious dual, Their both quick witted and do stupid and rewarding things throughout their show. You dont have to be a boarder to admire there funny life together.

Meerkat Manor: Being a compassionate animal lover I thought this was more of a documentary show, which it is, but throughtout this series you follow all the named characters through thick and thin, sadness and hilarity. Its a great show for animal lovers.

Janice Dickinson Modeling: Supermodel who got kicked off of Tyra's show...managed to get her own show. Which even though sometimes you will just hate the biatch, you'll also give her props and credit for doing something good wth all the knowledage as an ex model she has to offer. Sometimes she can be just plain offensive and other times make you cry.

My Life on The D-List: When Kathy Griffin came onto the scene way back when, I didnt like her, maybe because of my age then. Now at my age I fell in love with her series, and really got to see who she is and all about, She freakin funny!

The Simple Life: Remember when?! LOL these two back in the day had America waiting for every episode to air. Talk about airheads, dumb blondes. Really? They had to be faking there way through alot of it, nobodys that dumb, are they?!.

Fat Actress: Guess who?! It's our girl from the show CHEERS: Kirstie Alley, and wow is she big here!
I was curious so I put this in my queque list for netflix stuff. I actually liked it. It was only a season long. But she manages to make light of her life. the show captures the travails of an actress who doesn't quite fit the physical mold in Hollywood but tries anyway to snag roles (in her usual wittily acerbic style) because she truly was/is a talent.

Blood Diamond (2006)

Directed by Edward Zwick, director of Glory and The Last Samurai. In war-ravaged Sierra Leone, diamond smuggler Danny Archer learns that a local fisherman Solomon Vandy has stumbled upon a gigantic gem, and he offers to reunite the man with his family in exchange for the diamond. When Archer befriends a journalist Maddey Bowen tracing "blood diamonds" that finance terrorist groups, he's faced with a choice between riches and humanity. DiCaprio and Hounsou each earned Oscar nods.

I have to say this was one of the best films I ever saw (this is the second time Ive watched it since it came out and just had to share it with everyone here). It was an eye opener! It's quite graphic but comes from a place of truth and really made me re-evaluate purchasing diamonds. The acting was fantastic from all the characters. If your looking for a real action pack, strong story this is it (guys really like this type of film ladies, but as a woman you may shed some tears if you're the senative type)! A don't miss film!

Footnote:
When the plot of the film became public, De Beers, the South African diamond mining and trading company, maintained that the trade in conflict diamonds had been reduced from 4% to 1% of total purchases by the Kimberley Process. De Beers denied a suggestion that the company had pushed for the film to contain a disclaimer to the effect that the events it portrayed were fictional and outdated.

More recently, the New York Post reported that Warner Bros. Pictures had promised that 27 child and teenage film extras who were amputees would receive prosthetics once the film shoot was done. Several months after the completion of filming, however, the prosthetics had not been supplied, and the studio reportedly told the amputees they had to wait until the December 2006 release of the film to maximize a public relations boost. In the meantime, the private charity Eastern Cape assisted in supplying prosthetics to the amputees.
These allegations were countered by an article in L.A. Weekly, which stated that Warner Bros. had not promised the prosthetics, but that the cast and crew raised between $200,000 and $400,000 to begin a "Blood Diamond Fund," which was then matched by Warner Bros. and "administered by a Maputo-based international accountancy firm under the supervision of Laws and João Ribeiro, the production managers in Mozambique.
This information really bothered me, and it was eventually handled but it really makes you think about how the film industry makes promises and may not take care of what they promise.

Ice Age 2 The Meltdown (2006)

Okay how could I resist?! I just watched Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs and it was great had to watch this one too! Now I've seen all 3 of them! In this story Diego, Manny and Sid return in this sequel to the hit animated movie Ice Age. Only this time the ice age is over and everything is melting around them! It causes everyone to reunite and warn all the beasts of the land of the impending danger. It is full of hilarity, puns, and of course the saber tooth squirrel makes his appearance throughout the film. A love story also unfolds and few new characters show up on the scene. I just love these adult versions of animated cartoons, it allows us to revert to childhood and laugh with our kids or friends. Now I will say this out of the 3 films I would rate Dawn of The Dinosaurs as the best, then Ice Age, and lastly Ice age 2. This film is good but the others were much funnier and entertaining to me.

Cast:
Dennis Leary- Diego
Ray Romano- Manny
John Leguizamo- Sid
Queen Latifah

The Haunting of Molly Hartley

I couldn't remember if I had seen this, it came out in 2008, so i popped it on and to my surprise I hadn't. It floored me who was the cast people were in this. Molly Hartley (Haley Bennett), a 17-year-old girl moves to a small town where her deranged mother is in a institution for having tried to kill Molly by stabbing her in the chest. Molly attends a new prep school and trys to start her life over but is constantly hearing voices and extreme flashbacks. The film is written by John Travis and Rebecca Sonnenshine and directed by Mickey Liddell. The plot has similarities to that of the 1976 horror film To the Devil a Daughter so I dont want to say to much here. It was pretty good, kinda a lame ending but worth a watch if your looking for a horror flick type.

Cast:
Haley Bennett as Molly Hartley
Chace Crawford as Joseph Young (from show Gossip Girl-Nate)
Jessica Lowndes as Laurel Miller (from show 90210-Adrianna)
Jake Weber as Robert Hartley (from show Medium plays the father)
Shannon Marie Woodward as Leah
Shanna Collins as Alexis White
Anna Lynne McCord as Suzie Woods (from show 90210-Naomi)
Marin Hinkle as Jane Hartley (from show Two and a Half Men-Judith)
Nina Siemaszko as Dr. Amelia Emerson

Ron Canada as Mr. Bennett
Kevin Cooney as Dr. Donaldson

Ice Age Dawn of The Dinosaurs (2009)

They're Back! Scrats back to catch the famous acorn but now theirs a new player in town, Scratte.  A hot liitle saber tooth squirrel. Meanwhile Manny and Ellie are about to have their first child. So Manny wants everything to be just perfect but things of course go arye when Sid wanders off in discouragement, only to find 3 pre-historic eggs beneath the ice. This is where the story truly begins.

The cohesiveness of the cast was well thought out, and newcomer Buck (played by Simon Pegg) has great levity in this film and the subtle puns are well done throughtout the film.

Location:
Blue Sky Studios

Cast:
Queen Latifah ... Ellie (voice)
Denis Leary ... Diego (voice)
Simon Pegg ... Buck (voice)
Ray Romano ... Manny (voice)
John Leguizamo ... Sid (voice)

The Ugly Truth

Made by the producers of Legally Blonde 2 and
written by a team of three women. You go girls!
They did a great job and kept things pretty factual
as far as this reviewer is concerned.
Abby (played by Katherine Heigl) is a morning show
producer living in Sacramento. Their show needs
better ratings or their show is going to be
canceled. So they bring in this outrageous
chauvinistic a local cable call-in host who
promotes the ugly truth to prove his theories on
relationships and help anyone find love even her.
So making an agreement to prove him wrong he
becomes her "Cyrano" to prove his point. From there
events take place that change everything down the
road. There is some comical aspects to the film which are
are all relatable to either gender as well as young
and old. I wouldnt recommend this to minors though.

Cast:
Katherine Heigl-Abby Richter
Gerard Butler -Mike Chadway
Bree Turner -Joy
Eric Winter -Colin
Craig Ferguson -Himself
Cheryl Hines -Georgia
John Michael Higgins -Larry
Noah Matthews -Jonah
Bonnie Somerville -Elizabeth

ArtistGirl's Opinion: Makes for a great ice breaker
on a second or third date.

Transformers Revenge of The Fallen

Outstanding. Talk about a fast paced action film!
The Transformers cinematic franchise director Michael Bay’s live action adaptations of the cartoon series about battling skyscraper sized robots who can mutate into anything mechanical. The 3d effects were just amazing, it must have taken forever to develope this film. The storyline is great even if you've never seen the first Transformer film. Now this time Decepticon forces return to Earth on a mission to take Sam Witwicky prisoner, after the young hero learns the truth about the ancient origins of the Transformers. Joining the mission to protect humankind is Optimus Prime, who forms an alliance with international armies for a second epic battle. Shia LaBeouf (who plays Sam)is a up and coming star and did great in this film. Also Megan Fox (who plays Mikaela)is in it which all the men love watching, sure she's really pretty but from what i hear on blogs she's really a biatch in real life or should i say a very arrogant young lady. But let's ignore that for now. The battle scenes are a little long in some spots but they keep you enthralled.

Film Locations:
Now the begining of the film is shot on Queensway Bridge and Shoreline Drive in Long Beach, California.
Now the college scenes were filmed at the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University.
Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico which stood in for Egypt in this film.
Tucson International Airport and the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group's aircraft boneyard.
Also Camp Pendleton and Davis-Monthan Air Force Base.
They even shot for three days in Egypt itself, at the Giza pyramid complex and Luxor. Four days were then spent in Jordan; the Royal Jordanian Air Force aided in filming at Petra, Wadi Rum and Salt.
Place de la Concorde in Paris, with shots of the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. Then finished on the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis.

Now my fav car is in this film the 2009 Camaro!

Now I have been informed that these little toys are really beneficial to children with Autism. My nephew has Autism and plays for hours with these transformer toys, they really are intriqued by them and will constantly open and close them all up. So if your looking for a great toy for children with Autism this would be it.

Angels and Demons

Now I know a lot of people would read the book, but Im a visual person and could never imagine this story as well as the film revealed. So given a choice save your money and watch it on NETFLIX. Ron Howard directed the crime thriller, which is based on The Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown's novel. And we all know Ron Howard who use to be Opie on The Andy Griffith show, turned out to be an amazing director!
When I first heard about this film I thought their we're going to be angels & demons in it well their are but not like I orginally thought. This is a fast paced film and the effects are well done. The storyline is really good. Personally I enjoyed this far more than The DaVinci Code. This film is 90% filmed in Roma (Rome) I traveled their back in 2004 it was amazing. Unfortunately we didnt have time to get into the Vatican itself, instead we toured the Vatican Museum. Here's a few of my own images related to the film and a link for you to chk out other travelers images and info on Rome itself.

The Colosseum

Street towards Piazza San Pietro (St. Peter's Square)

Trevi Fountain
Standing 25.9 meters (85 feet) high and 19.8 meters (65 feet) wide, it is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. This is why I came to Rome, I had always dreamed of seeing this landmark.
The backdrop for the fountain is the Palazzo Poli, given a new facade with a giant order of Corinthian pilasters that link the two main stories. Taming of the waters is the theme of the gigantic scheme that tumbles forward, mixing water and rockwork, and filling the small square. Tritons guide Oceanus' shell chariot, taming seahorses(hippocamps). In the center is superimposed a robustly modelled triumphal arch. The center niche or exedra framing Oceanus has free-standing columns for maximal light-and-shade. In the niches flanking Oceanus, Abundance spills water from her urn and Salubrity holds a cup from which a snake drinks. Above, bas reliefs illustrate the Roman origin of the aqueducts. The tritons and horses provide symmetrical balance, with the maximum contrast in their mood and poses (by 1730, rococo was already in full bloom in France and Germany).

Tossing a Coin
The water at the bottom of the fountain represents the sea. Legend has it you will return to Rome if you throw a coin into the water. You should toss it over your shoulder with your back to the fountain, And yes of course I did!

Castel Sant'Angelo and the Bridge of Angels

More Rome Images and Info:
http://www.viator.com/Rome/d511/vatican-tours?pref=02&aid=g3919

The first thing I noticed in the beginning of this film was how short Tom Hanks really is....lol...you'll see what i mean...later I read he is actually 6' 1".
The second was in the scene showing the Trevi Fountain, when the camera shows the opposite side of the street they show a building that isnt really there, those who have been been may or may not have got that, but I did..lol In fact we were shocked to see how small some of the landmarks really are, in films and images our imaginations see things much grandier! In fact the whole square surrounding the Trevi Fountain is only about 105 ft x 95 ft.

Now the film is based around the Secret Order of the Illuminati (which means the enlighten ones) here's great link of a gentleman who did a lot of research and it is written and easily understood (in his opinion).

here's another one too:

The Cast:
Robert Langdon's played by Tom Hanks
Vetra's daughter played by Ayelet Zurer
Also Co-stars Ewan McGregor and Stellan Skarsgard

Artistgirl's opinion: Definately worth seeing from Netflix

Star Trek (2009)

SEE THIS!!

Seriously I grew up with the orginal Star Trek (no I'm not a treky). Personally I hated the show Shatner drove me nuts with the way he spoke. And the effects were piss poor. But.... I knew the cast by name, and some episodes Ive never forgotten. The only reason I even watched the show was because as a kid I wished I had the ability to go into space and explore than be at home bored to death. So when this was coming out I thought hmmm okay, I'll wait till Netflix has it. Glad I have a 60 inch screen cause its seriously worth viewing! The effects are great and the film flows from start to finish and you cant afford to get up to pee unless you have a "pause button"....lol. The cast was selected perfectly, for this look back at how Capt. Kirk became Kirk and all his crew came together. Here's the line up for those who want actors names and characters:

Capt. Kirk played by Chris Pine
Spock played by Zachary Quinto
Chekov played by Anton Yelchin
Uhura played by Zoe Saldana
Scotty played by Simon Pegg
Sulu played byJohn Cho

Artistgirl's opinion: Definately get this from Netflix!

Not a Netflix member yet? It's easy to get an account and choose a plan that fits your needs ( And no they don't pay me to advertise them, I recommend them myself):

Tired of wasting time and energy on a crappy movie?

I watch alot of Netflix, heck its a deal and while others drive, pay late fees, and wait for some films to come out, or still spend a fortune going to the movie houses, mine come right to my mailbox. So I figured Id help out those who use Netflix and need a quick thumbs up or thumbs down on their flixs. I will post films i watch as I watch them, it will take alittle time to get this blog going but it should be worth it. So stay tuned in Movie Goers!
